My name is Clyde Jones II, the artist behind Backcountry Tie Dye. I grew up in Louisiana, born in 1981 on a cotton farm that eventually expanded into a 1,200-acre operation with cotton and corn. This upbringing instilled in me the values of hard work, patience, and a deep appreciation for hands-on craft. Before diving into tie dye clothing, my life revolved around working with my hands and noticing the details of the world around me. I worked in excavation from 1998 to 2003, spent years as a carpenter until 2012, and then embraced photography, which remains a significant part of my identity today. I’m captivated by wildlife, nature, mountain landscapes, and the subtle beauty that reveals itself when you take a moment to slow down. I capture these moments with my Nikon D800, and that keen eye for color, shape, texture, and natural patterns directly influences my handmade clothing designs. I began creating tie dye in 2021, and it quickly evolved into more than just clothing; it became a fusion of everything I love: art, nature, music, movement, and the vibrant energy of festival culture. Inspired by artists and musicians like the Grateful Dead, Phish, and Modest Mouse, music festivals have always felt like home to me—filled with creativity, color, and open-mindedness. Each piece of unique apparel I create is tied, dyed, and handled with care. My work is not mass-produced; it is handmade, one piece at a time, with the intent of crafting something that feels alive. I want every shirt, pair of overalls, hoodie, or bandana to feel like wearable art—infused with movement, story, and a touch of wildness. Backcountry Tie Dye embodies a lifetime of working with my hands, capturing beauty through a camera lens, a love for music, and a connection to nature. It is personal, imperfect, colorful, and authentic—just like the individuals it is made for.
